lyrics

"Damndest Thang"

You were The Mystery,
Unrecorded history,
A flickering shadow in my yard.

The years went rollin' by,
And sometimes I'd wonder why,
But mostly it just always seemed too hard.

But then the Wise Man spoke to me,
Asked me one question:
What kind of man do you want to be?

Ain't life the damndest thing?
You never know what's coming up,
Or what the wind will bring.
You never know what's gonna make you cry,
Run, dance, shout, laugh or sing.
It's the damndest thang...

I am The Diplomat,

But I never realised,
That there was a child inside,
Barefoot and angry and running wild.

And so I spoke to the Wise Old Man;
I posted a letter letter,
With a trembling hand.

Ain't life the...

I am The Diplomat,
It never seems that bad;
Ain't nothing heavy if you hold things light.
So when The Mystery,
Opened the door to me,
That was all it took to make things right.

So I tip my hat to the Wise Old Man,
And to The Mystery,
'Cos good God-damn!
Ain't life the damndest thang...
