Poo-Bah
By Seamus Anthony Ennis
Karma's gonna get you boy.
Karma's gonna get you boy.
One minute you're crusin',
The next your bruised and battered like a discarded toy.
She's a fucked up Poo-Bah yeah.
She's a fucked up Poo-Bah yeah.
And nothin' in this world never made any Goddamn sense to me.
No, I could never make any sense out of this Goddamned world.
Tomorrow is a car crash,
And yesterday - well that's just history.
Tonight it's cigarette ash,
And a beautiful girl,
But I could never make any sense out of this world.
It's messin' me up in the head.
Yes, it's screwing me up in the head.
One minute you're fine,
The next minute you find,
That you're lyin' on the floor and you're dead,
Or that you're messin' up a hospital bed.
Out of this world,
Outta this world,
Out of my head,
And out of this world.

My Wooden Leg
By Seamus Anthony
Oh, Time passes by,
Man, and then sometimes it surely flies,
And a man has to run.
But me and my wooden leg,
Our trail leads to thee.
Yes you,
I heard what you said,
And Baby, I believe.
And so I bid thee farewell,
May that sun shine on your path.
Oh, the tales you could tell,
Should anybody ask.
Not of me and my wooden leg,
Not of movies you did see.
And not of books you have read,
But of places you have been...

An Interesting Life

An Interesting Life
By Seamus Anthony Ennis
It's 1:30am,
I'm at the Scarab Bar again,
Drinking and conspiring with my new friends.
Legends,
One and all,
None of whom I will recall,
Tomorrow,
When I'm writhing around in pain.
But it's the cost,
It's the price,
Of an interesting life.
You take off into the air,
Just like a plane.
You climb higher,
And higher,
Until your wings catch on fire,
And you plummet,
back to the planet,
Yet again.
Chorus
Singin'
"Oh Mary, My love,
My beautiful friend".
Singin'
"Oh Mary - the fun never ends".
Singin'
"Oh Mary - from up above,
From heaven descend".
Singin
"Oh Mary - forgive me,
Again".
There's a man,
Standing there.
He's got very expensive hair,
But only cheap and nasty things to say.
And some bloke that I just met,
Man his name I already forget,
He bored me so bad I just balked and walked away.
Chorus
There's a girl,
Standing near,
Rubbing sweet nothin's into my ear,
And I'm smiling and pretending like I really care.
While in fact,
I've got a plan.
I've got my greedy eye on The Man,
'Cos he's got some of what I want,
Over there.
Chorus
It's 1:30am,
I'm in the Scarab Bar again.
Watchin' all my money wash down the drain.
And soon that sun it will rise,
And splash acid into my eyes,
And then,
I will truly suffer the pain...

Stayin' Clear
By Seamus Anthony Ennis
It's not always easy,
Stayin' clear,
Day after day,
Year after year.
1,2,3,4 reasons to shut the door.
4,5,6,7 or even some more,
Reasons why I could just turn out the light,
But one reason why I will never say die.
And sometimes I stumble,
Yeah I fall down,
Take a tumble,
And wind up kissing ground.

Never Gonna Be A DJ

Never Gonna Be A DJ
By Seamus Anthony
I quit my job washing dishes and scrubbing pans the other night;
I just walked out of the kitchen while they weren't lookin' even though I knew it wasn't right.
But the other kitchen hand, you see,
Well he was only twenty three;
They found him floating lifeless in the Yarra,
And now he will never be,
All of those things he wanted to be.
He wanted to be a DJ,
But all he ever did was work all day,
And now he's never gonna be no DJ
Never gonna be a DJ, baby,
Never gonna be a DJ.
So as I was drying the cutlery,
Sweeping the floors,
And emptying the bins,
And as the chefs burned their arms and swore,
I got to thinkin' about things (again).
And I re-realised that life is far too short to waste,
Doing something that you really hate.
So if you're gonna do it,
Then go ahead and do it,
Before it's too late.
Before it's too late.
Never gonna be a DJ, baby,
Never gonna be a DJ.
And then that night as I was lying in my bed,
I heard this voice inside my head.
It said "G'day Seamus."
And I said "G'day Steve...
Ummm ... aren't you supposed to be dead?"
"Yeah that's right,
Very perceptive!
But I just wanted to tell you about how I really died.
And I just wanted to give you,
A little peace of mind,
And let you know that it's alright..."

Crazy Heart

Crazy Heart
By Seamus Anthony Ennis
Crazy Heart,
Ah man you made it through another day.
Give yourself a pat on the back man.
After a lazy start,
You always seem to find yourself the perfect way.
And I can see,
You and me,
Easy chairs and an old TV.
And in the end,
My good friend,
We all get driven round the bend.
But Crazy Heart,
Ah man you made it through another day.
Another day ... and that's why I say
I could never lean on you now,
We're all lovers on the run,
And time will surely feed dust to ground,
When all is said and done,
The blazing sun,
Is gonna set on your,
Crazy Dream,
But ah babe you lived it for another year.
Crack yourself a nice cold refreshing beer.
Just like a laser beam,
You aimed your cross-hairs right between our ears.
And I can't tell,
If you'll do well,
Or just die and go to hell.
Because to me,
The Mystery,
Is impenetrable inviolably,
But your Crazy Dream,
Ah babe you lived it for another year,
Another year ... and that's why I'm here.
I could never lean on you now,
We're all lovers on the run,
And time will surely feed dust to ground,
When all is said and done,
The blazing sun,
Is gonna set on your,
Crazy Heart,
But ah man you made it through another day.
After a lazy start,
You always seem to find yourself the perfect way.
The perfect way ... through another day...

A Rock on a String
By Seamus Anthony Ennis
Random action,
Masquerading as direction,
And then one day: a train.
Conversation,
Copulation,
Separation.
Will they meet again?
If I must use one,
To describe you then let me,
Use the analogy,
Of a healthy, young tree:
Just a sapling when I took you home,
From the nursery,
My – look how you’ve grown,
Taller than I’ll ever be.
I’m just glad I ended up with you,
Dogs and cats and swimming laps,
And French fine food.
I oughtta change my nothing-name to gratitude,
Just name it, baby,
I’d go right out of my way for you.
Just name it, baby (alright, hey hey, ooh-ooh)
I find it amazing,
How the simplest things like,
A rock on a string,
Can change the way things pan out.
What if Alan’s pendulum had told the man “No”?
What if one year later,
Me and Jimmi had said “Yes” to the loan?
You’d be with some other man now...
